Primary colours in design

There is no colour, only different wavelengths of light. Human eyes have the ability to distinguish wavelengths, so we see everything around us in colour. The light beam also differs in the frequency of oscillation. That is, the colour perception that ours passes through itself is the result of a visual reaction to waves of different lengths. All light rays that our eyes perceive form the visible (optical) spectrum.

Let’s look at what are the main colours in the design. There are two types of primary colours: additive and subtractive. Our eyes contain receptor cells (RGB) – red, green and blue. RGB colours are the primary colours of pure light and belong to the primary additive colours.

Primary subtractive colours appear as a result of light reflection and are divided into two types: primary colours for printing – cyan, red and yellow (CMY). There are also primary art colours, red, yellow and blue (RYB).

In their work, designers use all types of colours to get the desired result in design projects. Colour selection is carried out taking into account (RYB) and colour theory. The choice of colour in design also depends on the direction of the design project. For example, if a design is being created for a logo and a brand book, then it is necessary to take into account the technical characteristics of the colour when printing since it has its own properties.

For example, when creating a design for websites or applications, colour selection also has its own characteristics when viewed from a monitor or phone screen. Each project should have a technical description in order to choose the right colour.
